Increased fuel economy standards will create jobs, report says…

With the constant attention on oil prices, articles like the one published in Canadian Driver today will become more and more prominent in the news. I for one think that this type of change is taken too passively by our governments and that we have the technology to make substantial improvements at this time. Regardless of my rant, I have attached a rather positive article in the efforts to reduce consumption and better our planet.

Toronto mayor announces hybrid conversion project

Last week David Miller, mayor of Canada’s largest city, announced plans to convert hybrid vehicles to plug-in models that can be charged by any wall socket. Miller’s goal is too have more hybrids on Toronto streets leading to cleaner air and less pollution. The city will work to create an infrastructure to support such vehicles.

CAW says ‘insanity’ of green movement is unfairly punishing auto sector

Canadian Auto Workers union president Buzz Hargrove PORT ELGIN, Ont. (CP) – The Canadian Auto Workers union targeted Prime Minister Stephen Harper and the “insanity” of the environmental movement Friday as delegates talked strategy with an election ever looming and an Ontario provincial vote less than six months away.

Although historically linked with the New Democrats, union president Buzz Hargrove used a national meeting of delegates to recommend strategic voting to bolster the Liberals, both federally and provincially, and cautioned against the growing momentum of Harper’s Conservatives in the polls.

Rising fuel prices…

It’s a topic that I can’t help but associate with that humourous CITI Bank commercial “Hand’s in My Pocket” illustrating the likes of money hungry banks and their never-ending list of charges. 269 MINIs set Guiness World Record for longest MINI Convoy

In 2004, 195 new and old MINIs set the Guinness World Record for the longest MINI convey in the world. But on the evening of March 28, 2007, 269 MINIs broke that record in Blackpool, UK, to be part of the historic two-mile route and help raise cash for Comic Relief. MINI

MINI owners traveled from as far as Croydon and Cardiff to participate in a parade that was organized by UK MINI dealership Derek Woodman.

BMW: First-quarter sales rise while March down by 1.9%

BMW said today that while first-quarter sales rose 0.1 percent from last year with a total of 333,276 BMW, MINI, Rolls Royce cars sold, March sales for new cars fell by 1.9 percent to a total of 141,568. For March, Rolls Royce was the only brand to report a sales increase of 6.4 percent while BMW cars fell 2 percent and MINI cars fell 1.5 percent.

The BMW brand sold 286,185 vehicles in the first-quarter, an increase of 1 percent. The Rolls-Royce brand sold 113 vehicles, an increase 5.6 percent.
